DEPS provides a scalable, cloud-based collaboration capability that enables you to share information through independently managed community and mission-focused sites. DEPS provides capabilities for you to customize your site and manage content in order to satisfy your unique mission requirements, or leverage standard taxonomy and templates. Using a common platform, DEPS enhances enterprise-wide collaboration and increases operational efficiency. As a result of transitioning to DEPS, your organization enables its mission by:
- Sharing document libraries, team calendars, task lists, blogs, basic workflows, and more
- Securely accessing shared resources at anytime, from any place, whether stationary or mobile
- Facilitating efficient collaboration and information sharing across the DoD
- Increasing operational efficiency by leveraging highly secure Defense Enterprise Computing Centers (DECCs), which consolidate administrative, hardware, and software resources
DEPS is built on a configurable, multi-tenant environment with the inherent capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint 2010. Using a modular design, DISA has the capability to grow capacity to support the entire DoD. DEPS’ design also provides redundancy both locally and remotely for all components of the system, replicating data between paired sister sites to facilitate Continuity of Operations (COOP) in the event of a catastrophic failure. DISA integrates your organization into the operational structure and provides 24/7 support through a central service desk, ensuring you receive the support and information assurance you need, when you need it most. Our technical solution:

Capacity
Using DISA Enterprise Service’s Pod technology architecture, DEPS will support 100,000 users per Pod and is capable of scaling to the needs and size of your organization. DEPS is designed for an average of 250MB of storage per user times the number of users, which will determine the total storage capacity for your site collection. Storage is allocated across your site collection by your site administrators to meet the needs within your organization. Should your organization grow beyond the needs of 250MB per user, DISA can accommodate your larger storage needs as required.
COOP
The DEPS design provides redundancy both locally and remotely for all components of the system, replicating data between paired sites to facilitate COOP in the event of a catastrophic failure. DEPS’ initial implementation is deployed to two DISA DECCs separated by a significant geographic distance to provide a warm/standby instance. These sites are strategically paired to provide COOP with each site having the capacity to support the primary instance and the COOP site for its pair. Data is replicated from the primary site to the COOP every hour. This design allows DEPS to provide this service with 99.9% availability.
Staging Environment
A staging environment is available in DEPS for partners to validate their migrations and applications before moving them into production. The staging environment allows organizations to create their Site Collection and verify the following items prior to moving the Site Collection into production:
- Your organization can provide the data for your Site Collection; DEPS will port the data to validate your content, applications, and customizations in the DEPS environment.
- DEPS requires CAC authentication; you can verify access to your users.
- Staging environment provides the means for version compatibility verification.
- Security is built into the content on DEPS; the staging environment allows you to ensure your legacy accounts correspond with the DEPS environment containing the DoD GAL, the repository for the DoD CAC population.
- Provides your organization the ability to verify full functionality within the site and access to the site prior to production.
Once your organization is ready to move your Site Collection from the staging environment into production, the DEPS team will coordinate with you to ensure a successful transition.
Service Desk Support
DEPS provides a Level II, Tier I service desk to your organization’s Level I, Tier I and II end user support. The DEPS Service Desk will coordinate with your organization’s service desk to resolve incidents and problems related to DEPS should they arise. DISA integrates your organization into the operational structure and provides 24/7 support through a central service desk, ensuring you receive the support and information assurance you need, when you need it most.
The DEPS Service Desk utilizes a combination of remote access/control services and touch labor support for associated partner support to resolve incidents and problems related to DEPS. The DEPS Service Desk will escalate the ticket using their normal ticket procedures.
