GARING CAPTURES “PREMIER 100” IT LEADERSHIP HONORS

Arlington, VA – The Defense Information Systems Agency and Computerworld announced today that John J. Garing, DISA’s Director for Strategic Planning and Information, is a 2010 Premier 100 IT honoree. This year’s Premier 100 spotlights 100 leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership, innovative ideas to business challenges and effectively managed IT strategies.

“John Garing is a leader of exceptional talent and value,” said Lieut. Gen. Carroll F. Pollett, DISA’s director, “and is among the very best leadership DISA offers in supporting those who fight our nation’s wars.”  As director of strategic planning and information, Garing is responsible for supporting the DISA Director in decision making, strategy development, and communicating that strategy both internally and externally. He ensures that DISA’s program execution is aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) strategy in planning, engineering, acquiring, fielding, and supporting global net-centric solutions, operating the Global Information Grid, information assurance, and management of DISA information technology resources.

"The Premier 100 awards program shines a spotlight on the best of IT leadership and innovation," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Despite a tough economy, these senior IT leaders are seizing this rare moment to steer measured growth, embark on innovative pilots and build loyalty in their most valued workers. We’re pleased to honor the achievements of these 100 men and women who epitomize calm and steady IT leadership.”

Garing will honored at Computerworld’s annual Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference in March 2010, in Phoenix, Arizona.  More than 375 influential senior IT executives will attend, and the conference will showcase honorees and other IT innovators as they discuss how to create competitive IT organizations.

The Premier 100 was first created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have had a positive impact on their organization through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively manage and execute IT strategies.  Each year, 100 honorees are selected to receive this life-time recognition award.
