SERVICE DISCOVERY CAPABILITY UPDATE

PRINT PAGE Add This

The NCES Program Office will retire the Spiral 2.0 Service Discovery environment on Dec. 19. In September, customers were asked to discontinue using Spiral 2.0 services for publishing and to re-register their services on the updated Service Discovery version 4. Service Discovery version 4 was installed earlier this year, and has successfully completed a follow-on operational test and evaluation (FOT&E).  This is now the official environment for the NCES Service Discovery capability and many of our customers are currently using this new release. This release is a significant upgrade from the Spiral 2.0 version; it introduced new user interfaces for both service publishing and service inquiry, as well as a streamlined publishing process, which is integrated with the DoD Metadata Registry (MDR) and the Enterprise Catalog.

The following Spiral 2.0 Service Discovery interfaces will no longer be available as of Dec. 19:

  • The user interface for service publishing and service discovery on NIPRNet
  • The user interface for service publishing and service discovery on SIPRNet (https://service.nces.dod.smil.mil/wasp/uddi/bsc/web)
  • The UDDI Inquiry Web service on NIPRNet
  • The UDDI Inquiry Web service on SIPRNet (https://service.nces.dod.smil.mil/wasp/uddi/inquiry/v3/secure)

We are requesting that all existing Spiral 2.0 customers complete the transition of their service information before the Dec. 19 retirement date. Service information that has not been re-registered in the version 4 environment will not be available for discovery once the Spiral 2.0 environment is deactivated.
