MISSION
Ensure the availability and integrity of Satellite Communications (SATCOM) through a comprehensive program of certification, planning, provisioning, and management oversight. Promote the integration of new technologies to support emerging warfighter needs. Support the planning, integration, and configuration management of Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) services at DoD gateways to ensure the integrity and availability of SATCOM resources to support the National Command Authority, Combatant Commands, Armed Services, and other national users.
FUNCTIONS
- Serves as DoD's Operational focal point for Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) and Wideband Commercial SATCOM
- Appointed as the Consolidated SATCOM Systems Expert for DoD Gateways
- Manages the DSCS Satellite networks; exercises monitoring and control of Commercial SATCOM
- Operationalizes DoD Gateway, Teleport, and Step Capabilities into the GIG
- Manages SATCOM terminal and modem certification programs
- Performs all operational functions for DSCS within the scope of the DSCS SATCOM Systems Expert (SSE)
- Plans for optimum use of DSCS and Commercial SATCOM operational capabilities
- Provides SATCOM support to the warfighter and senior leadership
- Integrates SHF wideband SATCOM into the Global Information Grid (GIG)
