WHAT IS GCSS-J?

Global Combat Support System – Joint  (GCSS-J) is the System of Record for the joint logistics warfighter as identified in the Joint Publication 4-0 dated 18 July 2008.

GCSS-J is evolving to a more Service Oriented Architecture, and currently includes a portal and Web-based applications that deliver enhanced visibility to the joint logistician (e.g., essential capabilities, functions, activities, and tasks necessary to sustain all elements of operating forces in theater at all levels), and facilitates information interoperability across and between Combat Support and Command and Control (C2) functions.  In conjunction with other Global Information Grid (GIG) elements' and Combatant Commands' (COCOMs) / Services' / Agencies' information architectures, GCSS-J will continue to provide capabilities required to move and sustain joint forces throughout the spectrum of military operations (e.g., maps, reports, watchboards, and knowledge management).

WHY USE GCSS-J?
  • A Logistics “One Stop Shop” — Provides access to over 15 disparate authoritative databases in addition to a Joint Medical and Common Operational Picture for Deployment and Distribution (COP D2) applications via single sign-on access to the Web portal. 
  • Accessible — “Set up” requires only a browser* and PKI certificate for SIPRNet and CAC for NIPRNet. No additional client or site software required.
  • Enhanced Situational Awareness —  GCSS-J capabilities, combined with a virtual integrated data environment, provide users with enhanced situational awareness of the joint operational area. Visualizations, in the form of map layers, watchboards, and trend charts, provide our users with a Logistics Common Operational Picture (LOGCOP).  COCOMs have the ability to customize capabilities such as watchboards and reports to meet individual requirements, in support of their operational mission.
