MASS TRANSIT

Taking mass transit to Fort Meade is a viable and economical option for many Northern Virginia residents. In addition, mass transit allows riders the luxury of relaxing during their commute.

We're fortunate to have an extensive network of train and bus systems in the area — the largest of which are Metrorail, Virginia Rail Express (VRE), and the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) — and by utilizing public transportation, DISA employees are eligible to receive a transit subsidy of up to $230 per month to help offset commuting costs.

DISA is funding three shuttle bus services to make commuting to work easier for employees who choose mass transit. Service will be offered from the Greenbelt Metro Station, Odenton MARC Station, as well on post with the Fort George G. Meade Internal Shuttle. To use any of the three shuttles, simply present your DISA badge.

How to plan your mass transit commute:

If you've never commuted using mass transportation before, you may find the idea of reading timetables and switching trains slightly intimidating. Indeed, the first couple of times can be a little confusing, but once you get the hang of it, using public transportation is a breeze.

We'll provide you with the information and resources you need to plan a seamless trip to and from the office. You can also use the message boards to share tips and information and to ask questions of fellow commuters.
