Bringing portable and handheld satellite communications (SATCOM)
solutions to all areas around the globe, DISA has been designated as
the SATCOM system expert for Mobile Satellite Services (MSS).
- Provides technical planning and functions in
support of operational management of the Inmarsat SATCOM
constellation and responds to operational requirements of all Department
of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD customers.
- Maintains a management structure that will ensure MSS integration into the Global Information Grid.
- Obtains, operates, maintains, and provides the status of fixed and transportable MSS gateways.
- Establishes procedures for reporting the status and service interruptions.
- Establishes centralized contracts for the procurement of MSS terminals and services.
- Provides the required MSS resources to meet the combatant commanders’ needs in support of operation plans.
- Maintains the classified telephone directories for MSS.
- Establishes procedures for reporting status and service interruptions of the Inmarsat constellation.
- Coordinates for host nation and connection
approvals according to the regulations and standards of the
foreign nation in which the service will be used.
