Enterprise Search (ES) is the DoD’s designated enterprise tool for worldwide content discovery. ES provides capabilities to enhance the visibility of information products between the providers and consumers of this information across the GIG on the Unclassified but Sensitive Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) and Secret Internet Protocol Network (SIPRNet). Enterprise Search provides the means for content providers to advertise their information products and for content consumers (the end users) in turn to discover them.
Content providers are generally an author, web site administrator, or software developer responsible for generating content and making it available to others on the GIG. To make their content discoverable by both anticipated and unanticipated users, while employing the required access controls for sensitive content, content providers can use one or more of the three Content Discovery capabilities: Centralized Search (a crawler with a centralized index), Enterprise Catalog, or Federated Search. Content consumers can then use a single, simple user interface to generate queries and receive conforming results (discover content) found in any of these three capabilities.
STANDARD FEATURES
- Presents a single, simple user interface for searching and the tools needed to expose your data
- Indexes content efficiently, ensuring it is discoverable by both anticipated and unanticipated users
- Provides the data owner and authoritative data source control over who can access your data
- Supports the DoD goals for improved information sharing and increased awareness of information
- Content Discovery Deployable Architecture (CDDA) – CDDA is a lightweight version of the Enterprise Search suite of services with minimal capability loss. The purpose is to provide Disconnected, Intermittent & Low Bandwidth (DIL) environments a search service with no licenses and minimal hardware costs.
- Mobile Enterprise Search – Enterprise Search is accessible via any mobile device for users on the go. A certificate is required for access.
- Enterprise Search and Catalog Widgets – End users can now have search at their finger tips by adding the Enterprise Search and Catalog Widgets to their web pages. Look for these widgets as well as a magazine-style widget powered by Enterprise Search in the Enterprise Storefront in FY13.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Joint IC/DoD Content Discovery and Retrieval (CDR) Integrated Product Team (IPT) was established to develop and publish a set of architecturally driven standards and specifications to enable content discovery and retrieval from all IC (Intelligence Community) and DoD data collections. There are two introductory specifications (Reference Architecture and Specification Framework), and technical specifications to the six complementary core CDR Components: Search, Brokered Search, Retrieve, Describe, Deliver, and Query Management.
