DISA cuts mobility rates by more than 50 percent

Department of Defense Mobility Program users will see a major rate reduction for mobile services provided by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in fiscal year 2018 (FY18).

Effective Oct. 1, DOD Mobility Unclassified Capability (DMUC) device rates for new and existing users will decrease from approximately $7.50 per device, per month to $4.30, while rates for DOD Mobility Classified Capability (DMCC) devices will go from approximately $130 to $59 per device, per month, a decrease of 43 and 55 percent, respectively.

“These reductions are possible because of the rapid growth of new users,” said Jake Marcellus, DOD Mobility program manager.          

Fiscal Year 2017 costs were based on an average of 65,000 monthly users. The program now averages more than 100,000 monthly users. With more users to share costs, and revised projections for usage in FY18, the DOD Mobility Program is able to offer its services at significantly reduced rates.

“We aim to provide superior mobility services to all of DOD and have a path forward to grow the infrastructure responsibly - to leverage economies of scale and lower costs as we deliver additional features,” Marcellus said. “DISA has made delivering a secure, reliable mobile capability a top priority.” 

New users will see the lower rates when provisioning mobility services in DISA Storefront. No action is required of existing users, Marcellus said.

The DOD Mobility Program will continue to build on its current service offerings with plans to release additional enhancements in FY18, including adding support to tablet devices and the delivery of a mobile content management solution to access the DOD Information Network.
