Training Sessions Offer Guidance for DISN Connection Approval Process

The Risk Adjudication and Connection Division offers both recorded and live training to Department of Defense (DOD) and non-DOD entities seeking to establish, re-accredit, or re-certify their connections to the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).

Computer-based trainings (CBTs) that provide in-depth guidance on specific elements of the connection process are available through the Mission Partner Training Program (MPTP) website. There are currently 12 training videos posted to the site. Additional CBTs about the PPSM Category Assurance List (CAL), Cloud IT Project Onboarding, Joint Regional Security Stack (JRSS), Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Cyber Hygiene Analysis (CHA) are in development.

The recorded briefings target specific steps in the processes and areas where users often have difficulty. Many older CBTs are undergoing updates, as some processes and terminology have changed.

“These training sessions are designed to reduce the frustrations and to provide support to those individuals who are tasked with completing the connection approval packages, as well as the ports, protocols and service management (PPSM) and cross domain solutions (CDS) registrations,” said MPTP Coordinator Matt Warren. “Packages can be completed in a shorter time frame, with a lower error rate — which will allow DISA to process the packages and establish or recertify connections in a timely manner.”

Upcoming live training dates and topics include:

  • Oct. 4 and 18 - Ports, Protocols and Service Management (PPSM) Overview.

This training video will describe what PPSM is and how to register a system’s ports, protocol, and services.  It will help the users reduce the likelihood of errors and delays in the connection process.

  • Nov. 1 and 15 - Mission Partner Cloud IT Project Onboarding.
  • Dec. 6 and 20 - Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) 101.

A live question and answer session with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will be held immediately following each scheduled training session. The fourth Tuesday session of each month, will feature an open topics question and answer session at 2 p.m. Users can ask questions on any topic and receive answers from SMEs who will be online.
