Career Series: 326 – Office Automation Clerk
When I joined DISA, I had a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Frostburg State University, and was pursuing a Master’s in Counseling Psychology at Howard University.
How I found out about the Student Temporary Employment Program:
I saw the STEP position listed on https://www.usajobs.gov/StudentsAndGrads.
The reason I decided to take this position:
Working for DISA gives me a way to support the men and women who serve in the armed forces.
What I do to support our nation's Warfighters:
I assist with recruiting the brightest young talent in the areas of Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Information Technology, etc. These are the people who make DISA what it is!
My favorite work-life benefit:
I enjoy the telework program. I am able to work from my home in Waldorf, Md. ad-hoc. This is beneficial when I have to run errands, for example, because I can still work half of the day instead of having to take the whole day off.
My advice to those interested in a STEP position at DISA:
Working at DISA in the STEP program is a great stepping-stone toward full-time federal employment. The agency offers a lot of training opportunities, both in the classroom and on-the-job, which allow you to learn new skills and develop your resume. The program also allows you to get experience in the career field you are interested in and can be helpful when determining what type of career you’d like to pursue after graduation.
