MISSION
Ensure the availability and integrity of satellite communications (SATCOM) through a comprehensive program of certification, planning, provisioning, and management oversight. Promote the integration of new technologies to support emerging warfighter needs. Support the planning, integration, and configuration management of Defense Information Systems Network services at Department of Defense (DoD) gateways to ensure the integrity and availability of SATCOM resources to support the national command authority, combatant commands, armed services, and other national users.
FUNCTIONS
- Serve as DoD’s operational focal point for the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) and wideband commercial SATCOM.
- Appointed as the consolidated SATCOM systems expert (SSE) for DoD gateways.
- Manage the DSCS satellite networks and exercises monitoring and control of commercial SATCOM (COMSATCOM).
- Operationalize DoD gateway (Teleport and Step) capabilities into the Global Information Grid (GIG).
- Manage SATCOM terminal and modem certification programs.
- Perform all operational functions for DSCS within the scope of the DSCS SSE.
- Plans for optimum use of DSCS and COMSATCOM operational capabilities.
- Provides SATCOM support to the warfighter and senior leadership.
- Integrates super high frequency wideband SATCOM into the GIG.
