SgtMaj Antonio N. Vizcarrondo Jr.
Senior Enlisted Advisor
Sergeant Major Antonio N. Vizcarrondo Jr. is the Senior Enlisted Advisor, Defense Information Systems Agency, Fort Meade, Md. In this role he serves as the principal military advisor to the DISA director and his staff, providing a senior enlisted perspective in a global organization of civilian and military personnel that directly supports the President, Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combatant Commanders, Department of Defense components, along with other mission partners across the full spectrum of operations.
He was born in Lynn, Mass., and was raised in Tyngsboro, Mass.
In February 1982 he joined the Marine Corps. He underwent recruit training at Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
In December 1982 Private First Class Vizcarrondo completed the Assault Amphibian Basic Crewman Course at Camp Pendleton, Ca. He was ordered to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C. During this assignment he served as an instructor with Landing Force Training Command, Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Norfolk, Va., and deployed as an AAV Crew chief with Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Bn, 8th Marines, participating in security operations in support of the American Embassy in BEIRUT, LEBANON. Upon returning to the continental United States he was combat meritoriously promoted to Corporal and finished his first enlistment as a Sergeant in March of 1986.
In December 1986 he returned to active duty and was assigned to 3rd Assault Amphibian Bn, Camp Pendleton, Ca. During this assignment he deployed with BLT, 2nd Bn, 1st Marines, 15th Marine Amphibious Unit and with BLT, 1st Bn, 9th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In August 1990 he deployed to the Gulf War with 3rd Bn, 9th Marines, and participated in Operations DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM.
In 1992 Staff Sergeant Vizcarrondo received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Ca., and served with Mike Company, 3rd Battalion as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and 3rd Bn Drill Master.
In 1995 he returned to 3rd AAV Bn and deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the AAV Platoon Sergeant as part of BLT 1st Bn, 5th Marines, 31st MEU (Special Operations Capable). During this tour he was accelerated promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In 1997 he returned to MCRD, San Diego, Ca., and served as a Chief Drill Instructor, “A” Company, 1st Recruit Training Bn, Company First Sergeant, Special Training Co, Support Bn and Recruit Regiment Operations Chief.
In 2000 First Sergeant Vizcarrondo was assigned to 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, Ca. During this tour he served as a 1stSgt, Headquarters and Service Co, 1st Supply Bn, Communications Co, H&S Bn, and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the Sergeant Major, Combat Service Support Battalion-16 (CSSB-16), 1st FSSG (Forward). Upon return to CONUS he was assigned to Maintenance Company, Transportation Support Battalion.
In 2003 SgtMaj Vizcarrondo was assigned to the Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron-164, MAG-39, Camp Pendleton, Ca. In 2004, SgtMaj Vizcarrondo was assigned to All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA-121, Miramar, Ca., and deployed to the Western Pacific and to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 06-08.
In 2007 SgtMaj Vizcarrondo was selected as the Sergeant Major of the Recruit Training Regiment, Parris Island, S.C.
In 2010 SgtMaj Vizcarrondo was selected as the 1st Marine Logistics Group Sergeant Major. He was subsequently deployed to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.1/10.2/March 2010-2011, and again to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.1 as the Sergeant Major, 1st MLG (Forward)/North Atlantic Treaty Organization Regional Command (Southwest) in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
SgtMaj Vizcarrondo assumed responsibility as the Senior Enlisted Advisor of the Defense Information Systems Agency on Jan. 4, 2013.
SgtMaj Vizcarrondo has completed all levels of required enlisted Professional Military Training including the Joint Professional Military Education program and the Keystone Course at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He has also earned an Associate degree in General Studies from San Diego City College.
His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal 3rd award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal 2nd award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal 2nd award, Combat Action Ribbon 3rd award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 12th Award, and the Drill Instructor Ribbon 3rd award.
